Viktor Kova\u010di\u0107 was born on 28th July 1874 in Lo\u010den Dol near Roga\u0161ka Slatina on the border between Styria and Croatian Zagorje. His family was of humble origin. Father Antun was a shoemaker, while mother Marija, born \u017dolger, took care of the household. We know from scant information that he also had brothers. Kova\u010di\u0107 was left without both parents at the age of six, when Anton Kri\u017ean, a prominent Zagreb theologian and university professor, took care of him. In 1880, he enrolled him in a folk school in Graz, which he finished in the early summer of 1884 with very good grades. However, in 1888, Kova\u010di\u0107’s guardian died suddenly. Left without any means of living, the young Kova\u010di\u0107 sought security from Joseph F. Flohr, a well-known construction entrepreneur and architect from Graz, who employed him as a masonry technician. Over the course of a year, he acquired solid knowledge of construction at Flohr. This enabled him to enroll in the trade school in Graz in the fall of 1889, in the construction and trades department, where after two semesters he obtained the title of construction technician. At the end of 1890, Kova\u010di\u0107 decided to leave Flohr, and at the beginning of 1891, he left Graz for Zagreb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
